What is Tigne Point Beach?
Tigne Point is a peninsula at the tip of Sliema, sitting on the Northeast coast of Malta island. It’s a special place because of its vantage point. Directly across the capital of Valetta, Tigne Point offers a wide panorama of Malta’s most iconic view.
Originally a historic fortification complex, the area was left abandoned for several years until it was redeveloped as a residential and shopping area in the early 21st century. Although much of Tigne Point has been modernised, luckily some of the old structures still remain and open to visitors.
Walking further and further closer to the tip of the peninsula, you’ll notice that the views get better and better, until you hit the coastline and reach Tigne Point Beach, where you will find the best, unrestricted views of Valetta city.
How do I get to Tigne Point Beach?
First, you’ll have to get to bustling area of Sliema. From the center of Sliema (around where the Sliema Zara is), walk about 10 minutes towards the peninsula to reach Tigne Point.
Now, this is where some visitors sometimes trip up – because when they reach The Point Shopping Mall, they think they’ve reached the end of the peninsula and get confused as to why they can’t see any views!
What you need to do is actually walk past the shopping mall (it’s alright – you’ll have time to go shopping later, promise), and further in towards the tip of the peninsula. To do this, you’ll have to pass through residential complexes and some gates.
It might seem like you’re trespassing or in the wrong area, but you’re not. Just keep walking, past Fort Tigne until you reach Tigne Point Beach. Once you’ve reached it, sit back and enjoy the amazing views!
Is there anything else I need to know?
There’s a lot to see and do in the area – apart from the large The Point Shopping Mall, there’s many historic sites to take in such as Fort Tigne and others around the Sliema area. Sliema itself is the tourist capital of Malta and there’s always something going on, even in low season.
You should definitely time your visit if you want to catch the sunset by Googling ‘Sliema Sunset Time’, or else you might risk missing it.
You can visit at any time, for free.
