Best Things to Do in Mumbai

Wondering where to visit in Mumbai? Here are some of the must-visit spots in Mumbai that make the city so unforgettable:

  1. Global Vipassana Pagoda: Located just outside the city, this stunning golden structure is an architectural marvel and a peaceful retreat. It’s inspired by Myanmar’s pagodas and serves as a center for meditation. Even if you’re not into meditation, the serene atmosphere and impressive design make it worth visiting. Standing beneath the massive dome, you’ll feel a sense of calm amidst the hustle of Mumbai.

2. Bandra Fort: Overlooking the Arabian Sea, Bandra Fort is a great spot for history buffs and photographers alike. Built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, the fort offers panoramic views of the iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Visit at sunset for some breathtaking scenery and an escape from the city’s noise.

3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Mumbai’s most iconic landmarks. Originally built as a railway station in the late 19th century, it features a stunning blend of Victorian Gothic and Indian architectural styles. It’s still a fully functional station today, and watching the organized chaos of commuters here is an experience in itself.

4. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya: Previously known as the Prince of Wales Museum, this is Mumbai’s premier museum. It houses an impressive collection of Indian art, artifacts, and sculptures spanning centuries. The museum’s Indo-Saracenic architecture is as captivating as the treasures inside, offering an excellent window into India’s rich heritage.

5. Gateway of India and Taj Mahal Palace: No trip to Mumbai is complete without visiting this iconic duo. The Gateway of India, built in 1924, is a grand arch that faces the Arabian Sea. It’s a popular gathering spot and a symbol of Mumbai’s colonial past. Right across the street is the luxurious Taj Mahal Palace, a hotel that has been an architectural masterpiece and a hospitality icon for over a century.

6. Marine Drive (Queen’s Necklace): Marine Drive is Mumbai’s most famous promenade, stretching along the coastline in a sweeping curve. At night, the lights along the drive resemble a glittering necklace—hence its nickname, Queen’s Necklace. Whether you’re walking along the shore or simply enjoying the breeze, Marine Drive is perfect for slowing down and taking in Mumbai’s beauty.

These attractions are not all that Mumbai has to offer! Caves such as Elephanta Caves and Kanheri Caves are also well worth visiting.

If time allows, Mumbai offers even more:

  • Street Food Delights: Try Mumbai’s iconic street food, like vada pav, pani puri, and bhel puri. For an organized tasting experience, ask your guide to take you to trusted food spots.

  • Bollywood Experience: Mumbai is the heart of India’s Bollywood film industry. You can visit film studios on a Bollywood Tour, or watch a movie at an old-school cinema like the Regal or Eros.

  • Dhobi Ghat: Visit the world’s largest open-air laundry, where thousands of clothes are washed daily in a fascinating display of manual labour and precision.

  • Colaba Causeway Market: This bustling market is a shopper’s paradise, filled with jewellery, clothing, antiques, and souvenirs. Don’t forget to bargain!
