I recently stayed at this historic hotel, and wanted to share all my experiences at one of the best hotels in Switzerland.

Brief History about Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald first opened in 1907.

Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is one of the oldest and most historically significant hotels in the Grindelwald area. Opening in 1907, the Hauser family has been at the helm of the hotel for more than three generations.

Over the course of a century, the Hauser family have expanded the Hotel into what it is today – standing proudly over the Grindelwald valley.

Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is surrounded by many mountain peaks.

“Belvedere” meaning ‘beautiful view’, the hotel was aptly named because of the unbeatable views it had over some of the most notable mountains of the Bernese Oberland region - such as the Eiger and Mettenberg.

Frequently ranked as one of the absolute best hotels in Grindelwald and the wider Bernese Oberland area (just check TripAdvisor!), Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is adored by many around the world.

Location of Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

The location of Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is one of its strongest drawcards. Grindelwald Main Station is only a 3-minute walk away – making it very convenient for hotel guests.

Grindelwald village is about a 6 or 7-minute walk away. Far enough from the centre of Grindelwald that you’ll be able to feel like you’re in a private oasis, but close enough to reach after a short stroll, the hotel’s location was perfect for all my needs.

Needless to say, from a visual standpoint, Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is in a prime location, as its nestled between famous peaks such as Eiger, Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and more.

The town of Lauterbrunnen, is only a short train ride away from Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald.

It’s also easy to reach from other popular towns such as Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Wengen.

Attractions in Grindelwald, such as the First cable car, are also reachable by foot from the hotel.

First Cable Car in Grindelwald is reachable by walking from the hotel.

PS: If you have the time, I would recommend visiting all the towns and attractions I just mentioned above. Make use of Grindelwald’s central location and explore a little bit beyond, as well!

Getting There

As I mentioned above, Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is extremely close to Grindelwald station, so your best option is to take the train to the station and walk to the hotel.

It’s also possible to reach there by car.

Rooms at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

Classic Double Room with Eiger View, Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

The rooms at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald exemplify excellence. I stayed at one of the Hotel’s well-appointed Classic Double/Twin Rooms with an Eiger View, and was immediately super impressed with the views.

There’s just something so special about waking up to a snow-capped, fairytale wonderland. I remember feeling so blessed as I woke up every morning to THAT view!

I would wake up and just stare at that view, for ages.

Safe to say, I spent many hours just chilling on my balcony and staring at the mountains.

Beyond the view, I found the beds to be spacious and comfortable. The room was a great size, with plenty of space for me to set my bags. The bathroom and shower experience were awesome too.

I loved that the hotel supplied bathrobes and slippers – very useful to wear when going back and forth from the spa to your room. I also loved that a tablet was supplied, with all the information you would need about your stay and Grindelwald generally.

Which room should I stay in?

You can’t go wrong with any room at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald.

There’s not a bad room at the Hotel, but I would choose something with an Eiger View, as this will definitely put the exclamation point on your stay there.

Food at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald is home to a great new gourmet restaurant called 1910: Gourmet by Hausers, which features excellent fine dining cuisine.

Outside of fine dining, you also have the option to add breakfast to your room held at the hotel’s regular dining room, Belvedere Restaurant.

Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald’s breakfast experience was lush. The service was tip-top, the food was delicious, the selection was wide, and best of all, the views were the perfect accompaniment to breakfast.

Other perks at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

Another especially scenic area is the hotel’s lounge and bar area, where you can enjoy a welcome drink while taking in panoramic views of the mountains.

When should I stay at Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald?

Honestly, Grindelwald is gorgeous all year round. In the summer, you’ll get lush, green Swiss mountains with a dusting of snow on top of the peaks. The weather will be warmer and easier to manage.

Grindelwald Town on a winter’s day.

In the winter, Grindelwald turns into a picture-book-ready winter wonderland, and so does Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald. Autumn and Spring are excellent times to visit too.

Personally, I visited in the winter because I wanted to experience an outdoor sauna in the middle of freezing temperatures! However, any time is a good time to visit.
