Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Sofia
With a premium hotel brand like Hyatt at the helm, the Hyatt Regency Sofia is one of the Sofia’s best-reviewed hotels. In short walking distance to Sofia’s top attractions such as Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Vasil Levski Monument and the National Gallery, its location couldn’t get any better – but does the rest of this 5-star hotel measure up? Read on to find out in our review of the Hyatt Regency Sofia.
Getting to the Hyatt Regency Sofia
Getting to the Hyatt Regency Sofia is super convenient from just about anywhere in Bulgaria’s capital. Here are some ways you can reach the hotel.
From Sofia Airport
By Underground Metro
Sofia’s metro system is simple, safe, efficient and ridiculously affordable. You can easily take the metro from Sofia Airport Metro Station (The M4, Slivnitsa line) to SU Sv. Kliment Ohridski station. From this station, the hotel is about a 7-minute walk away. This is the most convenient mode of transport that won’t break the bank.
By Bus
There are numerous shuttle bus services such as the Traventuria 1937 which takes you from the airport directly to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. From the Cathedral, the Hyatt Regency Sofia is only a 2-minute walk away. However, these buses are quite expensive compared to the metro.
Local buses also serve the airport well, with a multitude of routes going into the city centre area. The best option is to take Bus 184, then switch to Bus 4 all the way to the Su SV Kliment Ohridski stop. If you’re confused, Google Maps is the best way to go.
By Taxi
Finally, you can take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The journey will take under 20-minutes and will cost 20-25BGN (10-13EUR) depending on traffic, however some taxis will only take Bulgarian Lev (BGY).
By Private Transfer
If you’re looking for the upmost convenience and want a private driver to wait at the airport with your name on a sign and then take you directly to the hotel, you can arrange a private transfer with the hotel.
From Sofia Bus Station Serdika
If you’re arriving from Sofia’s main bus station, Sofia Serdika Bus Station like I did, the most convenient way to get to the hotel is by taxi. The journey takes just over 10 minutes and cost me about 5-6EUR. Don’t have a lot of luggage on you? The hotel is a 34-minute walk from the station, if you wanted to save some money and get some exercise while you’re at it.
My room at the Hyatt Regency Sofia
The Hyatt Regency brand is all about upscale, modern, contemporary living and the Hyatt Regency Sofia certainly lives up to that reputation. I adored my spacious, stylishly designed room.
The room that I stayed in conveniently also featured a balcony, which was the perfect venue for having a morning coffee to start off the day.
Food and Beverage at the Hyatt Regency Sofia
Staying at the Hyatt Regency Sofia meant enjoying an all-out culinary experience. First, we’ll start with breakfast.
Breakfast at the hotel is held at The Revolutionary Dining Room & Bar. At breakfast, you can find a wide selection of cold meats, fruits, vegetables and classics such as bacon, sausage, egg and ham. I enjoyed some barista-made coffee here and loved it!
Speaking of The Revolutionary Dining Room & Bar, I also dined here for dinner and found the food to be delicious. The menu is comprised of Italian dishes with a slight Bulgarian twist, and everything I ordered was great. Beyond the dishes themselves, I also enjoyed the décor of the restaurant – Old Hollywood charm with a modern twist.
I didn’t get to check out this venue myself due to limited opening hours during the winter season, but the hotel is also home to The Scene – a rooftop bar serving enticing cocktails with a view. From what I’ve seen online, the décor of The Scene is also stunning. You can also find Mama Sofia, a deli café pit stop found right in the lobby.
Facilities, Hotel Grounds & Other Activities
One of my favourite aspects of my stay at the Hyatt Regency Sofia was being able to use the Regency Club. This is an exclusive lounge I was able to use due to my room category, and it was truly fantastic.
At the Regency Club, I was served hot and cold beverages, seasonal fruits and pastries throughout the day, and in the evening, a selection of canapés and other hot foods were also available. This venue has been immaculately designed and is perfect for spending some downtime, catching up on some work or socialising.
I can’t write a review of the Hyatt Regency Sofia and not talk about Ortus Wellness – the hotel’s wellness centre. It’s here that you’ll be able to find a hammam, steam room, Finnish sauna, bio sauna, salt therapy room, ice fountain and indoor hydrotherapy pool. I could have spent hours just relaxing here.
Finally, I also got to make use of the hotel’s ridiculously well-equipped fitness centre. Quite honestly, there were more treadmills at the gym here than my gym at home! I loved working out here and staying fit during my travels.
Staff
From reception to the lounge staff, restaurant staff, to the staff working at Ortus Wellness – everyone at the Hyatt Regency Sofia were super friendly and helpful at times. You can really feel the world-class 5-star customer service experience here at the Hyatt Regency Sofia.
