QT Melbourne Staycation: A Review
I’ve been living in Melbourne for quite some time now, but have never stayed at a hotel in the city. One of our favourite things to do when I was living in Perth was to try out different hotels and pick out which ones I thought were the best for a staycation, so I was super excited to stay over at QT Melbourne and check it out.
With its 5-star reviews and central location, I expected my stay at QT Melbourne to be a good one – but did it live up to expectations? Read on to find out!
About QT Melbourne
The QT Melbourne is located on Russell Street in the Melbourne CBD, conveniently placed in walking distance from popular spots such as Chinatown, Swanston Street, Fed Square, Flinders Street Station, the NGV and more.
Known for its design boutique accommodation and out-of-the-box interior design choices, the QT Hotel group boasts a pretty pristine reputation with its hotels all across Australia and the QT Melbourne is no exception.
Featuring a restaurant, a famous rooftop bar and a fitness centre with a view, the QT Melbourne is well-equipped with many facilities to serve its guests.
So how was my stay at QT Melbourne? Let’s break it down!
Getting There
I live in the Melbourne CBD, so getting to the QT Melbourne was as easy as hopping on my local tram. But if you’re located out of the city or coming from the airport, you can get to the QT Melbourne in a number of ways.
From Melbourne Airport, you can ride a Skybus to Southern Cross Station. From Southern Cross Station, there are a number of free tram options (since Melbourne CBD is a free tram zone) that you can take. For example, you could take tram no. 12 from Spencer Street/Collins Street (just outside the station) and stop at the 7-Exhibition Street/Collins Street stop. QT Melbourne is just a 2-minute walk from there.
The hotel is also very closely located to two other tram stops – the Swanston Street/Bourke Street #6 stop, and the Russel Street/Bourke Street #7 stop. The trams that stop here are numbers 86 and 96.
Check-In Process and Staff
The check-in process was as seamless as could be, as I was handed the key card to my room within minutes of approaching the front desk.
The staff at reception were all friendly, helpful and available around the clock. No complaints at all here!
QT Melbourne Rooms
When I first entered my QT Melbourne room, I was immediately impressed by the high ceilings. I loved that a lot of natural light filled the room as well.
The room itself was spacious, with stylish decorative touches. The king bed was huge and comfortable, and I found it to be a struggle to get up every morning as I was enjoying sleeping in too much!
The bathroom design was great as well, with the toilet and shower area separated (love that). I appreciated the Kevin Murphy shower products too - these are high-quality products that are actually quite expensive to purchase in retail stores, so it was a nice touch by the hotel to supply these to guests.
Hotel Design
The QT Hotel group prides itself on its boutique design elements, and I can see why. The interior design of the hotel was quirky and edgy – different from any other hotel I’ve stayed at.
With each turn of a corner, I was surprised at what the hotel had in store for me. I especially loved the pink conference room, which I thought was designed so creatively. QT Melbourne was just teeming with colour, energy and atmosphere – from its hallways, elevators and lobby area – and it made my stay here all the more memorable.
Food at QT Melbourne (Pascale Bar & Grill)
I dined at the Pascale Bar & Grill for breakfast every morning and thought the food was amazing! When I stayed, I got to choose from a breakfast menu that had quite a lot of choices on it.
My top picks for food is the big breakfast and breakfast pizza. Super tasty and sizeable portions – a big tick for me!
Rooftop Bar (Rooftop at QT)
If you live in Melbourne, you probably would have already heard of QT’s Rooftop Bar (named ‘Rooftop at QT’). One of Melbourne CBD’s best rooftop bars with a view, the Rooftop at QT is practically buzzing and alive at any time you visit.
Featuring a panoramic vista of the Melbourne skyline and a stylish indoor/outdoor bar situation, the Rooftop at QT is the perfect venue for a celebration, gathering, or if you just want to chill out with a drink at the end of a long day.
Fitness Centre
As much as I’d love to eat and sleep in all day, it’s also important to stay active while on vacation. The fitness centre happened to be on the same floor that I stayed at, which was extremely convenient.
QT Melbourne’s fitness centre isn’t the largest, but is well equipped and also features an overarching view of the city. I enjoyed running on the treadmill while looking down at a view of the CBD.
